Darren Tan's International Contest Winning Photos

September 30th, 2009
International Award Winning Wedding Photographer
2nd Place WPPI 2011 Second Half Contest - (Landscape / Nature Category) Woke up early in the morning and drove in total darkness up a windy road to the peak of Cameron Highland for one reason, to capture the sunrise. I took 9 shots to create this photo. The serene and peaceful view is simply breath taking.

20th Place WPJA 2010 Q3 Contest - (Bride Getting Ready Category) I was beside the bride with 50mm f1.4 attached with my camera. The make-up artist decided to align her veil. Without wasting much time, I took a few steps back and took the shot . The bride's hand covering her lips to prevent staining her veil complemented the shot.

18th Place WPJA 2010 Quater 1 Contest - (Toasting/Speeches Category)Perfect couple, one left handed and the other right handed holding the glass. At first, I wanted to focus on the couples expression, but the mic they are holding is a bit distracting. The details of the glass caught my attention, so I decide to focus at the glass, wide open aperture.

17th Place WPJA 2009 Quater 3 Contest - (Reception Category) By just focusing on the two guys, the photo would be too plain. To include the spectators leg in the photo, I have to take the photos at high point and I have to do it fast. Don't have enough time to find a chair, using my widest lens I have, at 14mm, lifted my camera high above my head and took the shot.

During my assignments in Johore last weekend, I'd spent quite some hours on air and road trips. Coincidently, both weddings' destination involved Pontian and Ayer Itam in a vice versa way. Hence the merry-go-round effect..ahaha..While travelling in the wedding car, thought to capture a sneak peak of our journey ;)

Flying with Fire

I am now at Johor Bahru for 2 wedding assignments. For budget airline, other than the well known AirAsia, we have Firefly for domestic flight. This time, I have choosen Firefly as it departs from Subang Airport which is very much more convenient for people from Klang Valley. The plane is much smaller as I can't fit my camera luggage into the luggage compartment. Took quite a long time trying to stuff my bag into the comparment with the help of some flight stewardess while other passengers looked on. In the end, they have to place my camera bag at the flight attendants' compartment

Drove down to Temerloh, Pahang, right after Antoine and Yvonne's wedding reception for the next day assignment. The windy and totally dark road is really challenging. I have to keep my eyes on the road every second of the drive and dare not even answer my wife's phone call. Finally arrived at 1am...phewww

Starbucks..my usual place for meet up with client or just to chill out with friends. Today, I have spent 5 hours there preparing slide-show for the dinner's presentation with photos taken in the morning. Having spent 5 hours in there and being stared by the staff a few times, I can't be sipping a cup of hot chocolate only, right!!..hence the second cup..ahahaha
